Here’s a red-letter date if there ever was one: On Burger House’s 60th anniversary celebration Dec. 13, you can get a single-patty cheeseburger all day for the original price of 60 cents. This news, courtesy of a DMN food blog, highlights quite a bargain since the single cheeseburger is regularly $3.49; we’ve written about the restaurant and its success over the years, too. In fact, one of our ancient magazine covers has been on the wall of the 6248 E. Mockingbird Lane shop for years, and every time I see it, I kick myself silently for our poor use of color on that one — thousands and thousands of free impressions later, you can still barely separate the “Advocate” logo from the photo background.

I would hate to know how many of Burger House’s patties (generally I eat them two at at a time) and fries I’ve downed over the years — generally after youth soccer, basketball, baseball games, so about twice a week for 10 years times two boys —  but it’s a lot.

In fact, maybe I should be blaming the Burger House guys, Angelo Chantilis and Chris Canellos (who lives down the street from the Mockingbird location and whose wife taught at Lakewood Elementary for years), for driving my cholesterol level up to what my doctors described as Lipitor-ish levels.

But in truth, they didn’t force any of their double-doubles down my throat, just like they won’t be force-feeding me Dec. 13. I will take care of that all by myself.

As you’ve probably noted, our family has a lot of memories at that place; feel free to add yours here.
