Dan and Sandy Calhoun are long-time Lakewood residents. Their boys Jonah and Noah attend Lakewood Elementary School and J.L. Long Middle School respectively. This year the family received some tragic news.
Dan Calhoun was recently diagnosed with cancer. The Lakewood dad was diagnosed with cancer previously, but it had been in remission for some time. Since the diagnosis he has been battling through chemotherapy session and surgeries to keep the cancer in check. Sandy Calhoun has been caring for him and the boys full-time.
Friend of the family Chris Prestridge said that both parents had been active in the community and with fundraisers and campus events at school.
Prestridge has helped set up a fundraising event for the family through the men’s group Friends of Lakewood.
“They desperately need the community’s help,” Prestridge said.
Saturday the group will host the Calhoun Family Fundraiser at The Barley House at 5:30 p.m. The band Getaway Driver will be performing a live show and donations will be accepted. The group has also set up a donation button on their website. They are hoping to raise at least $5,000 to donate to the family. So far they have raised more than $3,000.
