It’s not exactly official, but apparently one of the owners of Mi Cocina restaurant is telling D Magazine’s Side Dish blog that when Matt’s Rancho Martinez restaurant lease expires in February 2012, Mi Cocina will be taking its place. We’ve talked about this before as an ongoing rumor, but we haven’t been able to verify it as fact. I contacted Hillary Artzt, the PR/marketing rep. for MCrowd, who said they were not releasing any details on that location at this time. We’ll let you know when and if there’s an official announcement.
It’s not hard to imagine Mi Cocina taking over Matt’s patio and turning the place into a popular Lakewood hangout, much like the Mi Cocina on Skillman is a hot-spot in Lake Highlands. But a new restaurant that draws an even bigger crowd than Matt’s will certainly make parking in the Lakewood Shopping Village a lot more dicey, too.
And as for Matt’s? Well, the rumor there (and remember that all of this is rumor at this point) is that Matt’s will try to find another neighborhood spot to continue serving its Mexican favorites.
