Surrounded by their families, school personnel, donors, and Woodrow Foundation board members, the recipients detailed their academic goals and their reasons for seeking a college scholarship.

Students apply for the Woodrow Wilson High School Community Foundation scholarships in the spring of their senior year. The applications are evaluated by the Scholarship Advisory Committee.

This year, the foundation awarded $25,750 in scholarships, and each of these students also received a Texas flag, courtesy of the foundation director and Texas State Representative Kenneth Sheets. Most of the scholarships were for one year, and ranged from $500 to $1,500. Two are four-year scholarships.

The Today Foundation also announced that John Gonzalez, Benjamin Levy and Lela Saenzpardo received Woodrow Community Foundation Leadership Grants to participate in the 2015-16 Texas Leadership Forum — a scholarship made possible by a grant from the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation.

And Mark Mills presented the Model United Nations College Scholarship to Shelby Patterson, which is a new scholarship that recognizes a student’s outstanding participation in the Model UN program as well as excellence in academics and community service.

More information about the scholarships and recent recipients is available on the Woodrow Wilson High School Community Foundation website, or contact Woodrow Principal Kyle Richardson at 972.502.4400 or Richard H. Vitale at 214.702.1242.
