Football season is upon us, which means tailgating and Monday-morning quarterbacking are coming back in full force. This week we’re sharing some of our favorite football stories to help you gear up for the college and pro football seasons. East Dallas has produced some top-tier athletes at the high school, college and even the pro level.
The neighborhood’s greatest football player, Tim Brown, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last year. Brown graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and then went on to play for the University of Notre Dame and win a Heisman Trophy in 1987, before becoming one of the greatest wide receivers in the National Football League.
Bill “Bulldog” Cunningham, was a pillar of East Dallas and a Woodrow Wilson High School football player in his day. Cunningham died earlier this year.
Woodrow Wilson grad Greg McCoy went on to play cornerback for a Rose Bowl championship team. McCoy was drafted in 2012 and played a few seasons at the pro level.

Colin Spencer won the Nike Sparq Combine in Houston in 2012, scoring first in the nation out of 12,000 high school athletes. Spencer now plays college ball in Kansas.
