The building at the corner of Skillman and Oram has undergone some major construction in the past few weeks in order to accommodate the new Excellence 24-Hour Emergency Room.
The emergency room first announced it was opening in the Skillman-Live Oak Shopping Center in April. Originally Excellence hoped to open quickly sometime in September or October. Then the opening date got pushed back to November. They started construction in October, and November came and went. Now, well into January, the crews have made progress on the building, but from the looks of things there’s still a ways to go.
Excellence ER started in Houston a couple years ago, and there are two locations in the Houston area (although in Houston it’s called Dow Emergency). The Lakewood location is a part of an expansion, which will also include locations in Plano and San Antonio, according to Stefanie Nelson, the director of project development and operations with Excellence ER.
Excellence is a “free-standing emergency room,” Nelson says. Which means it will be a full-service ER that operates under its own license. It will have a radiology department, which includes equipment for CT scans and ultrasounds. It will also have its own lab and pharmacy.
