Resolana, a nonprofit serving women in the Dallas County Jail to reduce recidivism, has merged with Volunteers of America Texas, one of the largest social service nonprofits in the state and a leader in community re-entry programs.

“This collaboration means making the most of community resources and the exciting opportunity for Resolana’s innovative program to benefit more people in North Texas and beyond,” said spokesperson Aimee Sheahan.

Resolana participants creating Good Girl:Bad Girl dollsThe organizations will combine their expertise to reduce recidivism through a full continuum of pre- and post-release services, with a special focus on women and their children, according to a press release.

“When our organizations come together, Resolana will continue as before, but now as a program of Volunteers of America Texas, backed by the infrastructure of one of Texas’ largest nonprofit organizations. We are excited about the possibilities this merger offers to accelerate the growth of our program,” said Resolana executive director Amy Gill.

Founded in 2006, Resolana has innovated a transformative program to help women prepare for a new life while serving time in Dallas County Jail’s first and only supportive living community.  Women motivated to make life changes use their time in custody productively, attending classes that address addiction, domestic and sexual abuse, life skills, parenting and connections to resources.

This merge is backed by a growing trend of nonprofit mergers nationwide, Sheahan points out. There have been a couple already this year in North Texas — including Center for Nonprofit Management/Funding Information Center and Metrocrest Social Services/Senior Adult Services.

Both organizations are located in the Wilson Historic District in East Dallas, and the two will now be housed together at the Volunteers of America Texas office on Swiss Avenue.
