  • The National Book Foundation announced the 2013 National Book Awards longlist for nonfiction on Wednesday, and investigative reporter Lawrence Wright, a 1965 Woodrow Wilson grad, is on the list with his new book, “Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, & the Prison of Belief.” From L. Ron Hubbard possibly forging his war documents to the church incarcerating hundreds of members in a pitch-black basement, “Going Clear” takes on the Church of Scientology. Wright was a National Book Award finalist in 2008 for “The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11,” which won the Pulitzer Prize and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. He is a staff writer for The New Yorker, and the author of six previous books of nonfiction.
  • Speaking of Woodrow, the above picture features the new “Future Woodrow Wilson Wildcat” tshirts being sold by the Woodrow Wilson JV Cheerleaders.  This is a fundraiser, and they will be selling them at all the Woodrow Wilson Feeder schools.
  • Sports reporter Eddie Sefko recently dropped by our hood to chat with the Exchange Club of East Dallas and the Lakewood Country Club about the Dallas Mavericks, which he mentions in his blog.
