During the hustle and bustle of the work week, some things get lost in the shuffle. Here’s a roundup of four important news items you might’ve missed:
- Our little bee friends had a tough time of it this week. The City of Dallas continues to spray pesticides in order to rid the city of pesky mosquitoes that could potentially be carrying West Nile, and Pegasus News reported on Tuesday that several White Rock area neighbors woke up to find massive numbers of bees dead all over the neighborhood — an extremely unfortunate side effect to the protective measures. If you want to know more about the world of bees from a neighborhood level, check out our July photo-essay by Advocate photographer Danny Fulgencio, which focuses on neighbors Brandon and Susan Pollard with the Texas Honeybee Guild and their effort to save the bees.
- Remember Sammy’s on Lower Greenville? According to a post by Tomato Lady on the Lakewood, Dallas Facebook page on Monday, the old building is going to be torn down. “Had many good steak on a plank there,” she says.  If you have the patience to find it, there’s a picture of the old restaurant near the bottom on this article. If you don’t have the patience, check out the story anyway because some of the pictures are awesome.
- Hate to remind  you, but summer is almost over. New student registration begins today, Aug. 16, at 4:30 p.m and goes until Aug. 22. First day of school is Aug. 26, and returning students will receive an enrollment package during the first day of school. Check out the Dallas ISD website for more information, or call 972.925.5437 for help in English or Spanish.
- Excuse a second mention of CNN Money listing Lakewood on its top 10 best big-city neighborhood ranking. It just seems to deserve a second shout-out since it stirred up so much online buzz. Pretty much everyone in the city reported it, which in and of itself is kind of reportable: The Dallas morning news reported it… um, twice. D Magazine’s brief version (if you can call it that) has a very different take on the whole hullaballoo. Candy’s Dirt gave it a nod. As did these people, whoever they are. Heck, even city-data.com shared the link.[/list]
