Big Brothers Big Sisters serves more than 4,300 children in CollinDallasDenton and Tarrant Counties. Neighbor Matthew Newman received this year’s Big Brother of the Year for Community Based Programs for Dallas County.

We’ve actually written about Newman before. He’s the neighbor who is heading up the #FoodforCompost campaign, which is partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) on Earth Day 2015 in April.

Newman began volunteering with BBBS in 2009 after he was devastated by losing his job. Newman says his “whole life was changed” when he met his Little, Anthony.

Newman says he’s humbled by the award. “My Little brother is the reason I wake up every single day,” he says. “Truly the best gift ever.”
