1185747_545696078848139_960458488_nEast Dallas’ own Green Grocer on Greenville was recently recognized as a top Right to Know Grocer in North America, Central region by The Organic Consumers Association (OCA).

Ten food retailers from five regions were selected from more than 150 consumer nominated health food, natural health stores, food co-ops and CSAs that are making an honest effort to inform consumers about products that contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and stores that actively work toward GMO-free product lines, says a spokesperson — and Green Grocer was one of them.

“Green Grocer is proudly 100 percent GMO-free and features organically grown and locally produced groceries and specialty items,” says Gary Stephens, who along with his wife Cassie Green co-own Green Grocer.  “We are thrilled to have been nominated and selected as a top Right to Know Grocer,” he says.

1098213_545696385514775_569576799_nThe Organic Consumers Association (OCA) is an online, grassroots non-profit 501(c)3 public interest organization campaigning for health, justice, and sustainability. The Organic Consumers Fund is a 501(c)4 allied organization of the Organic Consumers Association, focused on grassroots lobbying and legislative action.

“As demand grows for organic, locally and sustainably grown, truthfully labeled non-GMO foods, hundreds of food retailers are rising to the occasion,” said Ronnie Cummins, National Director of the organization. “The OCA wants to recognize the efforts these retailers are making, which include pressuring food manufacturers to transition from GMO to non-GMO ingredients, and providing consumers with clear labeling so they can make informed choices.”
