You won’t have to make the trek to Richardson or Arlington if you’re craving some of Dog Haus’ signature franks. This weekend, they will be bringing their new food truck to Deep Ellum in time for the University of Texas vs. University of Oklahoma football game.

Beginning tonight at 7 p.m., the Dog Haus food truck will park at Malcolm X Boulevard and Main Street. Dog Haus franchisee Kirk Hermansen plans to serve up craft dogs until 1 a.m., and then all day on Saturday.

“One of the things that have changed since the pandemic, that we found out after really restaurants started reopening, is that more and more people just want to eat outside,” Hermansen says. “And it’s part of what led us to the food truck, frankly.”

Dog Haus first opened in Richardson in July of 2017, after Hermansen was approached with the concept. The Preston Hollow resident visited the original location in Pasadena, California and was immediately impressed.

“I thought it was a nice niche,” Hermansen says. “There really wasn’t anybody in the segment here that was delivering the quality of food, with the craft dog at that price for that value.”

Since opening, Dog Haus has offered signature hot dogs unique to the Richardson location, as well as the Arlington location that opened last year. Notable items include the big D, which is a smoked jalapeño cheddar wurst with chili pepper relish, chipotle aioli and cotija cheese ($7.99). Another signature dog is the cowboy, a smoked bacon-wrapped frank with a cheddar cheese sauce, caramelized onions and garlic aioli ($6.49).

This is the first public stop for the Dog Haus food truck, as it has only set up shop at private events since its launch last month. While a stop schedule hasn’t been finalized yet, Hermansen says we can expect to see the truck all throughout Dallas-Fort Worth.

“We will have frequent routine stops throughout the city and we will try to bring the Dog Haus experience to the people,” Hermansen says.

Dog Haus is located at 744 S. Central Expressway, Suite 210, Richardson and 4000 Bagpiper Way, Suite 110, Arlington.
