Two of them, the District 2 and District 8 spots, represent schools in East Dallas. The other spot is District 6, which is currently represented by Joyce Foreman.

Dustin Marshall represents District 2, which includes Dan D. Rogers Elementary, Mockingbird Elementary, Geneva Heights Elementary, Lakewood Elementary, Lipscomb Elementary, J.L. Long Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School among others.

Joe Carreon is the trustee for District 8, representing schools such as Solar Preparatory School for Girls, Solar Preparatory School for Boys, Mount Auburn Elementary and Ignacio Zaragoza Elementary.

The first day to submit a filing packet to be on the ballot is Jan. 18, and the deadline is Feb. 17. An election will be held May 6.

Submit an application in person at the Office of Board Services or by mail to the address listed here.

Candidates who have filed an application will be listed here.

Dallas ISD trustees, who serve three-year terms, are not compensated for their work on the board. They must live within the district they represent.

Trustees establish school policies, create priorities for the district, allocate financial and human resources, and hire the superintendent, among other responsibilities. In the past, the board agreed to change names of schools named after Confederate Army figures, including some in East Dallas.
