Discover DISD event was a blast!

With the holidays almost here, this is the perfect time to reflect on some of District 3’s accomplishments. Our schools could not have achieved everything they have without each and every one of our students, staff, and community members, so thank you to everyone who has offered their time and support so far this school year.

Bringing the Bryan Adams community together

The BA Blast Community Fair was a huge success that brought together families from all over the community to check out special live performances and fun and engaging booths and learn what the Bryan Adams Feeder Pattern has to offer. I am so proud of all the students who performed, including the marching band, cheer team, orchestra, mariachi, theater students, and more.

Announcing clean school buses

Dallas ISD will be getting 25 new electric school buses as part of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean School Bus program. Dallas ISD, one of 13 Texas districts selected for the EPA program, will receive over $7 million to fund the buses and build the necessary infrastructure. I am excited for our District 3 students to benefit from the reduced greenhouse gas emissions and cleaner air as a result of this program.

Accelerating student learning

Innovation is ongoing at Bayles Elementary School. Project READ, the district’s library redesign initiative, incorporates research, exploration, application, and design into campus libraries to expand students’ interest in arts and design, deepen their knowledge of coding and increase their critical thinking skills through research and collaboration.

The program recently brought a 3D printer to Bayles students and finalized renovation plans to open the school’s space by using mobile shelves to make room for maker and exploration zones. I cannot wait to see how our students will accelerate their learning.

 Celebrating innovation

The Office of Transformation and Innovation recently announced the Innovation Engine 4.0 recipients. Twenty Dallas ISD neighborhood campuses were selected to receive $50,000 to explore, implement or expand innovation this school year, including Sam Tasby Middle School, Alex Sanger Preparatory, Charles A. Gill Elementary School, and L.L. Hotchkiss Elementary School.

Meals will be available during the winter break

From Thursday, Dec. 22, through Friday, Jan. 6, Dallas ISD will be closed for the winter break. However, to ensure that all our students have access to nutritious food during this time, some schools will provide free meals for children younger than 18 and students up to 21 with disabilities. To learn more about the dates and the list of participating schools, visit www.dallasisd.org/FCNS

Happy holidays!

I am wishing all our students, staff, and community members a safe and restful holiday season. I will see everyone back in the new year ready to continue educating District 3 students for success.
