BMW Dallas Marathon organizers postponed the 50th running because of the coronavirus. The race, which usually happens in December, will take place the weekend of April 30-May 2.

“Given the current environment and restrictions associated with COVID-19, we are unable to host the BMW Dallas Marathon in a manner that our participants and guests have come to expect and enjoy from our organization” runDallas President Paul Lambert said in a statement.

Runners can still participate this December in the 2020 Virtual BMW Dallas Marathon. Participants can choose from five distances to be completed from Dec. 13-31.

Those who compete in the virtual and in-person races will receive apparel from both events and a gift pack. They will also be registered to win a special edition 2021 BMW vehicle.

All 10 events originally scheduled for Dec. 11-13 will take place on the new dates in April and May. The marathon course, which circles White Rock Lake and passes through many of our historic neighborhoods, will remain the same.

This isn’t the first time the December race has been canceled. In 2013, the whole shebang was called off after an ice storm downed power lines and slicked streets.
