Dallas CASA in East Dallas will receive nearly 4,000 blankets later this week.
Sleep Experts and Girl Scouts collected blankets, sheets, comforters, towels and pillows during their 12th annual Share the Warmth Blanket Drive, which was hosted at 40 Sleep Expert stores throughout Dallas-Fort Worth.
This year’s beneficiary is Dallas CASA, which is located in the neighborhood at 7275 Swiss. Every year Dallas CASA provides support for the nearly 2,000 children in Dallas foster care. (Read our previous story about CASA and the work they do.)
On the morning of Dec. 10, two trucks filled with donations will arrive at CASA to make the delivery, just in time for the cold winter months.
“The holiday season can be sad and uncertain for children who have been removed from unsafe homes and are living in protective care,” Kathleen LaValle, executive director and president of Dallas CASA, explains.
“We are honored to be the beneficiary of Share the Warmth this year and are so grateful to Sleep Experts and the Girl Scouts for helping us bring comfort to abused and neglected children living in foster care during the holidays.”
Sleep Experts spokesperson G’Nai Blakemore added that “the community support for the drive was fantastic.” Thousands of Girls Scouts across North Texas participated in the drive, and each one will earn a special Share the Warmth community service patch, she says.
