The Dallas Park and Recreation Department is just days away from breaking ground on a new dog park in Old East Dallas.

Four-legged friends and their humans are invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday at 501 N. Carroll Ave. Food and drinks will be provided.

In February, the department approved construction of Crockett Dog Park at Carroll Avenue and Victor Street. The 1.8-acre space will become a fenced-in area for large and small dogs. It will also include updated walking paths, picnic tables, a shaded pavilion and some ornamental trees and shrubs.

Former District 2 park board member Jesse Moreno began working with neighbors and Mayor Pro Tem Adam Medrano on the project in 2019. An initial timeline estimated completion in 2020, but it was delayed because of the coronavirus.

Landscape architecture firm TBG Partners designed the project, and construction is scheduled for completion in March 2022.
