Intersection at Gaston-Garland-Grand
District 9 councilman Mark Clayton says he has been in talks with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDot) about the intersection at Gaston-Garland-Grand in hopes of giving it a much-needed makeover.
“We want this to be a 2016 design, not a 1966 design,” Clayton points out.
The project is in the very, very, very beginning stages right now — the “feasibility and cost stage,” as Clayton puts it. First TxDot has to do a traffic study on the intersection and determine what options are available and roughly how much each one will cost.
Then Clayton will take that data before community focus groups, but don’t expect focus groups to happen until at least this summer, he says. At this point there are no specifics on what the end result will look like; everything is on the table.
“Functionality is the No. 1 priority, but aesthetics is a close second,” Clayton says. “We need it to be as aesthetically pleasing as it can be, if we’re really going to consider that area the new up and coming area.”
