Bake Sale Raises Dough for White Rock Lake

Volunteers will raise dough, literally, this month to help fund improvement projects at White Rock Lake.

During the Sept. 29 “Bake for the Lake,” participants will bake bread at the Great Harvest Bread Co., 6627 Snider Plaza, and sell if from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. to raise money for the nonprofit group For the Love of the Lake.

Some of the breads available will be honey whole wheat, onion dill rye, cinnamon raisin and harvest white.

Jim and Cheryl Klinkhamer, owners of the Great Harvest Bread Co., have donated baking materials, their facilities and their baking expertise for the event.

Residents are encouraged to stop by and stock up on bread, says Marci Novak, For the Love of the Lake founder.

All proceeds will go toward items for the lake’s park area, such as water fountains, playground equipment, benches and recycling bins.

The volunteer baking crew will begin cooking at 6 a.m.

To participate or for information, call 622-SAVE (7283).

Also this month, For the Love of the Lake will participate in a lake clean-up Sept. 21 from 9-11:30 a.m., with registration starting at 8 a.m. at the Bathhouse Cultural Center, Buckner at Northcliff. Refreshments, entertainment and children’s activities – including a moonwalk, petting zoo, face painting and magicians – will be available after the clean-up.

The clean-up usually occurs the second Saturday of each month. This month, however, the project is being held on the third Saturday of the month to coincide with a Citywide trash bash. The event is sponsored by the Dallas Park and Recreation Department.
