We’ve been following the progress of the building on the corner of Skillman and Oram, where a 24-hour emergency room called Excellence ER is totally reworking the space.

The location once housed Gallery Central, a custom framing store that had been there for 23 years before it was forced to move to the back of the shopping center in order to make room for the Austin-based coffee shop Houndstooth, which decided it didn’t want the location after all.

The location sat vacant for more than a year before Stonelake Capital Partners, who owns half of the Skillman-Live Oak shopping center, finally figured out what to do with the location.

About a year ago, Excellence ER announced it was coming to the location and would be taking over the space Gallery Central once housed, as well as the space next door where East Dallas Developmental Center was once located before it moved to a bigger space across the street.

Not long after, Stefanie Nelson, the director of project development and operations with Excellence ER, told us more information about the 24-hour emergency room, and said it would be opening in fall of 2014. Needless to say, that didn’t happen, as the ER has completely overhauled the building.

This morning, a peek in the windows showed things are getting really, really close.
