Construction is underway for the new Dallas public school designed to relieve overcrowding at James Bonham and James Fannin elementaries.

Groundbreaking ceremonies at 1802 Moser, near the intersection of Henderson and Ross, were recently for the two-story, $11 million facility, which will open next fall. The school is part of the $275 million bond program approved by voters in December 1992. Approximately 950 students in grades four through six will attend the school.

The school will feature a theatrical auditorium, a central workroom and storeroom for teachers, a centralized media center, a gymnasium, a courtyard, and several outdoor playing fields.

The Dallas Board of Education is seeking names for this school and 19 other new facilities, including schools being built at La Vista and East Grand and at the old Health Magnet on Ross Avenue.

A community forum for the public to suggest names will be held in the Administration Building’s auditorium, 3700 Ross, on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. Trustees will meet Oct. 10 and Oct. 26 to discuss the proposed names: they intend to approve a name Nov. 14.

For information, call the Administration Building at 989-8000.
