Franklin Brinagar (Õ79) is busy heading the Lighthouse for the Blind. Mary, his sister, is orchestrating fund-raising at the Dallas Arboretum after many successful years at the Dallas Opera.
I guess civic service is in their blood. There were some of the only Dallasites who didnÕt call R.L. Thornton ÒUncle Bob.Ó He was their grandfather.
Saw recently retired Sweetheart Sponsor and Football Coach Gayla Collinsworth (Õ62) in the Tremont Hotel Lobby at ÒDickens on the StrandÓ in Galveston. She says sheÕs enjoying herself. She also was Treasurette Sponsor at J.L. Long in the early Õ70s.
Thank you for your recent letters to the editor regarding my column. To answer Gary Griffith (Õ66): Yes, I do support Roxan Staff as our school board representative. I used to write the Lakewood HomeownerÕs Newsletter years ago when she and Mary Poss were nascent neighborhood activists, and the dynamic duo continues to do us proud. Besides, RoxanÕs daughter, Sydney, was MVP in the district on our victorious volleyball team this year.
And thanks to Marshall Surratt, who agreed with me about the need to implement George KesslerÕs 90-year-old plan for our East Dallas Mill Creek (now covered over) to be beautified as way Turtle Creek. By the way, I didnÕt see much if any major projects for any of East Dallas on the proposed bond issue, except for those Downtown and in Fair Park that would have a beneficial effect.
