The Dallas Department of Transportation and Public Works has been working on Valley Spring Drive in Lochwood and has plans to improve other roads in our neighborhood by next year.
The project on Valley Spring Drive included replacing the road with concrete and repairing drainage issues, according to an email from the Department of Transportation and Public Works. Valley Spring Drive was rated as a deteriorated street that needed significant repairs, according to the department.
One neighbor, Trey Brown, reached out to the Lakewood/East Dallas Advocate and said Valley Spring Drive had already been redone, complete with wheelchair ramps on the sidewalks, within the last couple of years. However, the City said the road wasn’t previously reconstructed, but the asphalt was replaced as a temporary fix.
“The road was in failed condition, which recently necessitated a temporary mill and overlay maintenance repair to make the street safe and drivable for residents, sanitation trucks, and emergency response, while waiting on funding for more extensive repairs,” the Department of Transportation and Public Works said.
Brown said he preferred the previous iteration of the Valley Spring Drive road repairs and questioned why more work was needed.
“It just seemed really strange that they would put in a brand new road and then remove it and then put in another brand new road, and they rip out all the new wheelchair ramps while the other streets in our neighborhood are just disaster zones,” he said.
Brown specifically mentioned that Meadowspring Lane needs attention. The Department of Transportation and Public Works said there aren’t immediate plans to work on that road within the next year, but it’s on the radar.
“The City is aware of the current condition of Meadowspring and has documented the project in the Needs Inventory so it may be selected for repairs at a future date,” the department said.
