Fire crews responded at 9:15 p.m. to Iglesia Bautista El Mesias at 5100 Belmont Ave.

Dallas’ NBC affiliate reported that it took firefighters two hours to extinguish the flames at the church, where thick smoke and flames erupted from the roof.

No one was inside the building when the blaze started because the sanctuary had been closed for renovations, according to Dallas Univision.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
