For the 11th year running, students from 34 Dallas ISD schools participated in the Common Cents Campaign, collecting more than $45,000 in pennies and spare change.
Edwin J. Keist Elementary School on Healey Drive donated $3,025, ranking it among the top two fund-raising schools this year. Since its inception 11 years ago, the Dallas Common Cents campaign has donated over $400,000 to local charities and non-profit organizations. Among the charities that will benefit from donations this year are the North Texas Food Bank, Jonathan’s Place, and the Promise House. Since these charities are geared toward helping families, some of the children that had a share in the campaign will benefit from the funds they’ve collected while also learning what the campaign founder and Dallas philanthropist Louise Gartner hoped to impart to them, that they can make a difference in their communities.
