Centennial’s Lakewood store appears to be emptying its inventory Thursday morning.

This morning, trucks were at the Centennial liquor store at the Lakewood shopping center taking out inventory, and it looks like the store is closing. This would be in keeping with the recent financial problems of Centennial’s parent company, which included store closings in February. Competition from newly-arrived Spec’s and Total Wine has hurt the chain, which owns Centennial, Big Daddy’s, Medallion, Apple Jack’s and Majestic.

In addition, the chain owes an undisclosed amount of money to its distributors, which means it is prohibited by state law from buying new supplies of wine and spirits until it pays those debts.
