Independence Weekend at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

The Dallas Arboretum has activities all weekend and into Independence Day. Starting July 1, Gil’s Elegant Catering will be offering $4 brownie sundaes, $2 hot dogs and root beer floats all weekend long.

Saturday’s list of events includes performances by Rebecca Noel and Low Key Colors. Eddie the Eagle will also make an appearance for story time and photo opportunities.

Sunday the garden is holding performances by Adriana Cordero and Lone Star Band. Window to the Wild and Country Critters Petting Zoo will also be on-site for wildlife experiences.

Red, White and Noon at Deep End

Head over to The Kimpton Pittman Hotel for a poolside Independence Day celebration. This 21+ event includes access to the bar’s outdoor swimming pool, free towel service, access to food and drink service and poolside music.

Registration for the event is free and includes a High Noon Seltzer. $7 validated valet parking will be available.

Independence Day celebrations with The Porch

The Porch is kicking off Fourth of July festivities Friday evening with their $1 slice special.

Each week Thursday through Sunday the restaurant will offer slices of lemon meringue pie for $1 after 10 p.m. This special runs through the entire month of July.

The restaurant will be handing out free jello shots June 30 through July 4.

The Porch also offers Reverse Happy Hour each weekend. Specials include $5 Frosé, $1 pony beers and $1 off draft beers. Specials also include, “$10 ‘Giddy Up’ – a Miller High Life pony beer paired with a shot of Jameson Irish Whiskey.”

The Porch is located at 912 N. Henderson Ave.

Brass Knuckles Corndog Beatdown at The Libertine Bar

Join The Libertine Bar for Brass Knuckles Corndog Beatdown. Participants are challenged to see who can eat the most corndogs in 15 minutes.

The winner of the competition will take home “the coveted Brass Knuckles trophy” and a $100 gift certificate. Second place will walk away with $50 gift certificate, and third place will be gifted $25 in quarters. According to the bar’s website,”In the event of a tie there will be a warm well tequila shoot out.”

The competition is July 4 at 7 p.m. Registration is open until 5 p.m. the day of the competition. Signing up to compete is free and must be done in person or by phone at 214-824-7900.

Fireworks at Lakewood Country Club

Lakewood Country Club will be shooting off fireworks July 4. The show is expected to start around 9:15 p.m. or once the sky is dark enough for the fireworks to be seen.

Fireworks with Shakespeare in the Park

Shakespeare Dallas has a July 4 performance of Much Ado About Nothing. Shakespeare Dallas performs at Samuell-Grand Amphitheater, offering “a prime view of the Fair Park fireworks.”

Fireworks at Fair Park are scheduled to go off around 9:45 p.m. during the intermission of the show. The company also allows food and drinks — including alcohol — to be brought to performances.

The amphitheater will open its gates at 7:30 p.m. and the performance begins at 8:45 p.m. Tickets start at $15.

Lakewood Parade and Fun Run

It’s time for the annual Lakewood Parade and Fun Run. This year’s theme for the Lakewood Parade is Lakewood: The Eras Tour.

Neither event requires preregistration. The entry fee for the Fun Run is $10 and includes a tee shirt. The fee can be paid at the starting line.

Both the run and parade route start at the corner of Lakewood Boulevard and Cambria Boulevard. The Fun Run starts at 8 a.m. and the Parade starts at 10 a.m.
