Carroll Shelby, who died in 2012 at age 89, isn’t originally from Dallas, but he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1940.

In 2009, Shelby told the Advocate that during his time in school, he was often sent to the principal’s office. He ran into problems with local law enforcement, too, for driving too fast.

During his life, Shelby was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, the Automotive Hall of Fame and the Woodrow Wilson Hall of Fame. He won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1959, and he helped design the Cobra and Shelby Mustang.

He was played by Matt Damon in the 2019 film Ford v Ferrari.
