There’s something about Memorial Day weekend that seems to make East Dallas neighbors want to ram their cars into buildings.

On Friday, a minor attempted to steal a 2006 Ford Explorer around 6:15 p.m. in the 5700 block of East Mockingbird Lane near Greenville Avenue, the Dallas Morning News reported.

When the car owner confronted the carjacker, he floored the gas pedal and crashed into Floyd’s 99 Barbershop, injuring three people. Two victims inside the business were taken to area hospitals for treatment, and the car owner was treated at the scene.

Police later arrested the carjacker, who had fled. His name has not yet been released.

What you might not have known — or forgotten — is that another East Dallas business was the victim of a car crash last year over Memorial Day weekend. In 2018, an Oldsmobile Bravada rammed through the wall of Strangeways on 2429 N. Fitzhugh Ave. in a drunken accident, according to the Dallas Observer.

In an Instagram post Friday, Strangeways’ owners said they were ready to pass the baton. But before they did, they offered Floyd’s some advice: “Get ready for a year’s worth of ‘Did a car really go through here?’”
