Physicians at the location, 2221 Abrams Road, will treat minor injuries and illnesses, including cuts, burns, muscle strains, broken bones, common colds and the flu. The Lakewood clinic will also provide physical exams, sports physicals, flue shots, X-rays and on-site lab work, according to a news release.

The opening comes months after renovations began on the former Washington Mutual bank, which was vacant since late 2010.

Demolition crews from Lindamood Demolition take down the interior walls to prepare for a new CareNow Urgent Care at Abrams and Belmont in Lakewood.

The Lakewood clinic is one of 30 in North Texas and more than 110 nationwide. The location appears to be the first inside Interstate 635 on the east side of town, with the next closest at Abrams and I-635.

“We’re pleased that we can now offer Lakewood families urgent care services when and where they need it, close to home,” CareNow Vice President of Operations Helen O’Donnell said in a statement.

CareNow in Lakewood will be open seven days a week with extended hours until 9 p.m. on weekdays. No appointment is necessary.
