When Hugo Galvan opened his restauant, Cafe San Miguel, on North Henderson almost five years ago, it was kind of a rough neighborhood. "People always say, ‘Oh, you were really smart,’" he says. "And I say, ‘No, I was just really lucky.’" He picked what would become one of the hottest addresses in Dallas for restaurants and nightlife.
Four years ago, there was no reason to build a patio facing North Henderson. Now, almost every restaurant, tavern and coffee shop between Central Expressway and Ross Avenue has one. "Now there’s more activity, more people. So it’s more fun to sit outside," says Galvan, Cafe San Miguel’s chef/owner.
Galvan hopes to have the addition finished by the end of September, just in time for good patio weather. He hired Coeval Studio to design the new patio to blend with the feel of the restaurant, which draws from Galvan’s hometown, San Miguel de Allende in Guanajuato, Mexico.

He has leased a space in the planned Museum Place development, near University Drive and West 7th Street in Ft. Worth, and expects to open the second Cafe San Miguel by the end of next year.
