For the first in recent memory, female athletes from the Bryan Adams swim team will be heading to the state meet in Austin. Both teams qualified after the boys placed second and the girls placed fourth overall at the regional meet.

The girls qualified in the 200m freestyle relay by placing second in the regional meet. The relay team consists of Naomi Arcega, Anja Cronjaeger, Mackenzie Patterson and Isabel Hall. Cronjabger also qualified individually in the 200m and 100m freestyle events by placing first in both at regionals. This will be her second year in a row to qualify for state.

“Our girls knew they had an outside shot at getting in and they just set out for a best time, which got the relay in,” head coach Nick Enriquez says. “We are really looking forward to making the most of this opportunity.”

The boys team qualified for state in two relays. They placed second in both the 200m medley and the 200m freestyle relays. Mike Hernandez, Joey Cook, Merritt Curtis and Abel Fetahi are on the relay teams. The 200m freestyle relay team set the Dallas ISD record earlier this year.

I’m very proud of this group,” Enriquez says. “They worked hard all year and I’m glad we were able to accomplish that goal.”

The state meet will take place Feb. 16 and 17 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center at the University of Texas in Austin.
