The national chicken wing franchise, which opened its first Texas outpost in December, appeared to be rather popular in the area. In fact, the restaurant was so slammed in its first month of business that it temporarily closed — staff members “were literally overwhelmed” by the “sheer volume of orders.”

Mike Kim, who’s in charge of Bonchon franchising, says that the Bonchon concept might have been premature for the Dallas market, according to Culture Map.

“We are developing new offerings that might appeal better to the American public in general. We are grateful for the hard work and support of the franchisee, staff and the local community,” Kim says.

A Bonchon manager says that the location will be “re-concepted into a more traditional restaurant called Ashwood, which he described as a ‘bar and burger joint,’ with wings and salads.”

We featured Bonchon in our May magazine for its flavorful chicken wings and impressive collection of North Texas craft beer.
