The company will open at 6240 E. Mockingbird Lane, the former BBVA bank building between Big Shucks and Burger House.

Black Sheep Coffee was founded in 2013 by Eirik Holth and Gabriel Shohet, according to The Caterer.

The company’s website says Holth and Shohet quit their jobs to “leave the herd behind.” They moved to London, where they served the first cups of “Robusta Revival” coffee from pop-up shops in Camden and street markets in East London. The brand differentiates itself with its Robusta beans, and it has since expanded its offerings to include some specialty Arabica coffees.

In 2018, the first Black Sheep Coffee franchise opened in Manila. There are now locations in England, France, Scotland and the Philippines, with others planned for Wales in addition to the Texas shop.

Kristaps Porzingis, a former player for the Dallas Mavericks, announced in 2018 that he would invest in the company, The Dallas Morning News reported at the time. Porzingis wanted to invest after he saw how the company helps homeless people and works to eliminate plastic, according to the News.

Black Sheep Coffee has a program called the Free Coffee Board Initiative. Customers can leave a fully stamped loyalty card on the board or purchase a sticker to be pinned on the board. Then, those items can be redeemed by anyone who can’t afford a coffee to receive a hot drink of their choice.

The company also prides itself on its sustainability efforts. Since it was founded, the company has used 100% compostable cups, PLA plastic alternatives and used, recyclable products. It also partners with a cosmetics company to repurpose coffee grounds into cosmetic products.

We have reached out to the company for more information and will provide updates when we learn more.
