After Bicycling magazine named Dallas the worst city for bicycling in 2007, grassroots efforts to improve the city’s cycling climate started to take hold. Bike Friendly Oak Cliff organized to promote harmony between auto and bike traffic. They put on costumed group rides to raise awareness, and they encourage businesses to affiliate with them to offer discounts to cyclists.

Now a similar group has formed in East Dallas. Bike Friendly Knox-Henderson says it is modeling itself after the Oak Cliff group. Its Facebook fan page states that the group intends "to use bicycling as a means to building a happier, healthier, and more livable community."
