The magazine included dozens of favorite dishes rather than a list of the top restaurants because of the pandemic’s effect on the dining industry.

All dishes chosen came from restaurants that opened between Dec. 1, 2020, and Dec. 1, 2021.

Here are the spots that made the cut:

Meridian: Brazilian restaurant Meridian opened in The Village in May 2021. The menu from chef Junior Borges includes everything from a whole octopus to fluke tartare to yuca and coconut cake.

Sister: This restaurant from Duro Hospitality opened where The Grape used to be on Greenville Avenue. It got a shout out from Texas Monthly in the small plates category for its charred eggplant dip.

Thunderbird Pies: This pizza joint from the people behind Cane Rosso was mentioned not for one of its Detroit-style pies but for the “thunderburger.” Try it at the White Rock Lake location on Gaston Avenue.

Cry Wolf: In the large plates category, chef Ross Demers’ restaurant was named for its 48-hour crispy wagyu tongue, which is cooked sous vide 48 hours and then pan-seared.

Carte Blanche: This Lowest Greenville establishment was included in the sweets category for its chocolate crémeux.
