A Belgian bar selling beer, frites and Liège waffles will open in the former San Francisco Rose on Lower Greenville.

Meyboom Brasserie was supposed to debut Aug. 9, the day a parade of the same name takes place in Brussels. But with bars closed because of the coronavirus, the opening will be delayed several months, the Dallas Morning News reported.

The bar’s name was inspired by the parade, a tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages. Each year, a tree is brought to Brussels to celebrate a victory over the city of Leuven in 1213. Today, the parade features giants, folk dress and lots of color.

Instead of opening the bar, M Streets neighbors and co-owners Jeff Karetnick and April Segovia celebrated by getting married.

The couple, which has traveled to Belgium a combined five times, noticed that Dallas lacked a bar that sold solely Belgian beer. Some is available in pubs around town, but no one has yet to serve them a perfectly poured Stella, according to the Morning News.

When it opens, Meyboom will serve beers like Delirium Tremens, Leffe Blond, Stella Artois and lesser-known gems like Tripel Karmeliet, the newspaper reported.

The bar will be located at 3024 Greenville Ave. in the former San Francisco Rose, which was a staple on Greenville Avenue for 40 years.
