Firefighters responded around 3:45 p.m. to the eatery at 8949 Garland Road, Dallas Fire-Rescue reported on Twitter.

The restaurant was closed, and no one was inside when firefighters arrived. They had to force entry through the front and back doors to extinguish the fire, which was put out in about an hour, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said.

The fire started in the kitchen, but investigators were unable to determine the exact cause because of the amount of damage, Evans said.

Investigators estimate that the restaurant sustained approximately $125,000 in structural damage and an additional $50,000 worth of damage to its contents.

No injuries were reported.

Barbec’s is considered to have the best beer biscuits in Dallas.

The restaurant started as a Howard Johnson’s in 1965 and was sold three years later. Barry Brown, who put the “Bar” in Barbec’s, bought the business and sold it in 1999, according to the Pioneers of Dallas County Facebook page.
