A while back — I think it was a little more than a year ago — I recall being stopped at several White Rock-area grocery stores and asked to sign a petition to allow alcohol sales in the so-called “dry area” stores.
Backers reportedly collected 58,000 signatures throughout North Dallas, White Rock Lake area, Park Cities, Farmers Branch, Addison and parts of Richardson, but it was apparently all for naught because the Texas Supreme Court just ruled the petition invalid.
I understand how businesses would find it tough trying to compete with other similar businesses up the road selling beer and wine along with everything else, but the real problem is the very confusing governing of alcohol sales around here.
The “hodgepodge of confusing and conflicting laws” apparently contributed to the huge waste of time that was getting signatures for this petition.
