I saw it first the other day in an Albertson’s grocery flyer, which trumpeted the news that prices were always low now — without or without the ubiquitous "discount cards" that all of the grocery stores employ. The new card-free shopping experience was confirmed today by Albertson’s, which says it’s doing away with its card "after listening to customers."

No such luck at Kroger or Tom Thumb, where I spent an additional $5 on some fish earlier this week when I forgot to bring my card to the store and the helpful clerks wouldn’t cut me any slack.
