The Stonewall Jackson Elementary School fundraiser, Shake, Rattle & Roll, drew at least 300 supporters to Life in Deep Ellum Saturday night. The silent and live auctions raked in tens of thousands. The Reverend Horton Heat provided the rattle & roll, and Stonewall supporters provided the shake.

Bass player James “Jimbo” Wallace and his wife have kids at Stonewall, which makes Jimbo a super-cool rock & roll dad. The Rev performed more of a lounge act than the psychobilly punk-rock kind of show we know and love. But early on, someone requested “Martini Time”, which got the party started. It was pretty swell to see bandleader Jim Heath play guitar up close, and some of our Lakewood neighbors really shook their groove thangs.

The band graciously performed a three-song encore that included “Where in the Hell Did You Go With My Toothbrush?” and a cover of “Folsom Prison Blues”. The Rev’s next Dallas show is June 12 at the Granada Theatre.
