A good Cowboys fan could probably think of two less barfy teams to have playing the Super Bowl in our stadium. Nevertheless, black and yellow meets green and gold on Feb. 6 in Arlington.

The big game might be 25 miles away, but the people and parties will spill into our neighborhood. For those neighbors who would rather avoid the whole thing, may we recommend renting a movie and staying inside that weekend, especially if you live in the Lower Greenville area. And downtown Dallas is expected to be crawling with cars and people starting late this week.

For those of us who don’t have tickets but want to make Dallas’s first Super Bowl memorable, here are some big things happening.

Jim McMahon is hosting a Super Bowl party at the Granada Theater on Saturday, Feb. 5. It’s called “Jim McMahon’s Swang’n Super Bowl Party”. That seems a little youthful for a dude who was first drafted to the NFL almost 30 years ago, but whatever. Maybe he forgot how old he is. The event features performances from Brother Trouble, Burns and Poe, Ira Dean, Charla Corn and Javier Colón. Tickets are $75-$300.

Most of the big events, including a Feb. 4 Prince concert in a giant tent where Reunion Arena used to be, are happening downtown. Here is a list of some downtown events.

A three-day Super Bowl party at Fair Park features performances from Lady Bunny, Roger Taylor from Duran Duran and Exit 380. Tickets are $119-$500.

We would love to hear what neighbors and businesses have planned for the Super Bowl. Anyone throwing a Super Bowl party that doesn’t have a $75-plus admission price?
