The event was held at Dallas City Hall and featured Texas Women’s Foundation (TXWF) President and CEO Karen Hughes White. Councilwomen Paula Blackmon, Kathy Stewart, Jaynie Schultz and Gay Donnell Wills read the Proclamation officially declaring Aug. 26 as Women’s Equity Day.

“As we gather at Dallas City Hall on Aug. 28, we not only celebrate the progress we have made in the journey towards gender equality, but also acknowledge the work that lies ahead,” League of Women Voters of Dallas President Sandy Thorton said.

The theme for this year was “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” which White said aligns with TXWF’s mission. TXWF raises funding to support investments each year that advance economic security and leadership for Texas women and girls through research, advocacy, grants and educational initiatives.

The League of Women Voters of Dallas is a nonpartisan organization that promotes voting as a fundamental right and aims to achieve elections that are “free, fair and accessible,” according to their mission statement. Similarly, they do this through advocacy and educational programs.
