Good Local Markets has been bringing local produce, meats, cheese, bread and more to East Dallas since 2009. Back then, they were named White Rock Local Market. Although their name has changed, the mission to strengthen the local economy, increase food access and support local farmers and businesses has remained the same.

Between their two locations in Lakewood and White Rock, the nonprofit has expanded in its 15 years. Every Saturday at the white rock location and every Sunday in Lakewood you will find them there, fruits and veggies at the ready—  besides Easter Sunday and Thanksgiving of course. The farmers appreciate that.

But with big growth, comes big changes.

The organization is moving their Lakewood market from the Lakewood Village to the Lakewood Tower parking lot and courtyard.

Their final day at the Lakewood Village location will be July 28, according to the Executive Director Isabella Chamberlain.

Chamberlain is hopeful that this new location will help encourage more interaction between shoppers and the market, as they struggled with people driving by their current location and leaving them unnoticed.

“We’re excited to be deeper into the Lakewood neighborhood,” Chamberlain said.

They will be returning at their new Lakewood location Sept.1, bringing 30 vendors and live music with them. Their White Rock location will continue to operate as normal in the meantime.

Even with all of the change and growth, the community is still the most important part. Chamberlain shared that from the vendors to the shoppers, Good Local Markets has created a solid community of caring people.

“That’s why this has been able to be around since 2009,” Chamberlain said. “Because the community wants it and they’re invested in it and they do what they can to help.”
