The NBA has collaborated with the Mavs Foundation to bring a new facility at the Boys & Girls East Dallas Club on Worth Street as part of the NBA Cares Finals Legacy Project.
On Thursday, June 13, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dallas received a new sports court and STEM lab with computers, iPads and other learning tools. The children played foosball, air hockey and video games in the new multipurpose play zone.
This project is the 58th Learn & Play space that the Mavs Foundation has been part of, as well as the 33rd court renovation.
These spaces encourage healthy living for children and residents while providing educational opportunities and technology access to support youth education programs.
“What we leave is a renovated Boys & Girls Club. So for all of you, it’s a beautiful basketball court that’s been refurbished. But some of you may not care about playing basketball. You may want to go to the STEM lab, [and] learn about reading, [and] learn about computers, that’s what this is here for,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a release.
NBA Cares is a foundation of partnerships with internationally recognized community organizations and provides the NBA and its teams and players with opportunities to address various social issues.
According to its website, the Mavs Foundation has provided more than $10 million in grant funding to nonprofit organizations over the past 27 years. It has also built over 50 safe Learn & Play Spaces throughout North Texas.
