This year’s Texas State Rowing Championships will be held at White Rock Lake for the first time in the history of the event.

The competition has been in Austin for more than 20 years, but White Rock Rowing has secured the opportunity to host it this time.

More than 500 athletes from across Texas will be participating in the 2,000-meter, six-lane, fully buoyed course. According to the competition’s website, rowers from Austin Rowing Club, Dallas Rowing Club, Dallas United Crew, Episcopal School of Dallas, Founders Rowing Club, Rowing Club of the Woodlands, St. Mark’s School of Texas, Texas Rowing Center, The Hockaday School, Ursuline Academy of Dallas and White Rock Rowing.

In addition, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson is naming April 23 Texas State Rowing Championship Day.

Neighbors are invited to attend the free event. Space will be available near the White Rock Boathouse (2920 White Rock Road) to cheer on the rowers.

Racing heats will be going 7 a.m.-5 p.m. April 23.

And the finals are scheduled for 7 a.m.-1 p.m. April 24. The varsity 8+ finals start at 7:40 a.m., the varsity 4x finals are at 9:40 a.m., and the team points trophy presentation is scheduled for 12:45 p.m.
