East Dallas’ lauded restaurant Khao Noodle Shop will not reopen — at least for now — after temporarily closing earlier this month, the Dallas Morning News reported. Instead, award-winning chef Donny Sirisavath will open a new takeout-only restaurant in the same space at 4812 Bryan St.

The eatery, called Khao Gang, is expected to open in mid-February. It will serve curries, soups and stew. The cuisine is still Laotian, but instead of noodles, most items will feature rice, according to the Morning News.

The menu will include up to 12 items, including gang kari — yellow curry with battered chicken thighs, leeks, potatoes, carrots and spices — and gang jued — a soup with pork meatballs, winter melon, glass noodles and mushrooms.

The dishes, likely available in “flights,” can be picked up or delivered. Sirisavath has not yet decided on a delivery carrier, the newspaper reported.

Khao Noodle Shop is probably not gone forever, just on hold while Sirisavath tries a new concept that is better suited to a takeout world because of COVID.
