White Rock Theater offers the sweetly moving story “Saving Pennies” by J. Renae Lesley, a piece inspired by her daughter’s friendship with Grace Loncar, a talented Booker T. Washington student who took her own life this year. The story follows two girls from childhood through adolescence as they deal with the highs and lows of growing up. Performances take place Thursday-Sunday at 7 p.m. at The Mix, 9125 Diceman Drive. Tickets are $8 and available here.

Mata Montessori hosts it’s major fundraiser of the year this Saturday from 6:30-10 p.m. at Kaycee Hall, 10110 Shoreview Road. During the “Midsummer’s Night Dream” themed auction party, attendees can bid on vacation packages, fine jewelry and a few quintessentially East Dallas prizes. Get to know the police officers who protect our neighborhood at “Coffee with the Cops” this Saturday from 9-11 a.m. Hosted by McDonalds, you can meet the officers at the locations at 11217 Garland Road and 5403 Ross Ave.

The Ferguson Road Initiative will host a litter clean up in Far East Dallas on Saturday from 9 a.m.-noon. Volunteers will meet at the Walgreens at Lakeland and Ferguson for breakfast before picking up supplies and heading out to spend the morning beautifying the neighborhood.

Dallas Blooms at the Arboretum celebrates spring and this year has the theme “Peace, Love and Flower Power.”

The summer of love is blooming at the Dallas Arboretum with “Peace, Love and Flower Power,” on display through April 9 and packed with vintage VWs encrusted in flowers. This weekend, the arboretum pays homage to 1960s legend Ed Sullivan, include an impersonator who will juggle and perform magic. It culminates with a Beatles tribute band, since Sullivan helped make the Fabulous Four famous. The show takes place from noon-2 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday and is free with arboretum admission ($10-$15, plus $8 for parking).

Beer lovers from Tallgrass Brewing in Manhattan, Kanas come to town this Saturday to provide free samples of their products at Craft Beer Cellars, 6324 Gaston. Taste Zombie Monkie porter, Songbird saison and Velvet Rooster Belgian triple, among other brews, from 1-4 p.m.

Take One celebrates its 10th anniversary “Whose Line Is It Anyway” inspired show on Saturday at 11 p.m. at Pocket Sandwich Theater, 5400 E. Mockingbird. The improve-inspired show is $5 at the door.

It will be all china and manners when the Contemporary Ballet Dallas, 5400 E. Mockingbird, hosts a mother-daughter tea time on Saturday from 3-5 p.m. There will be a “Miss Manners” class and a runway show during this girlies event. Tickets are $45 for a mother-daughter duo (additional female guests are $10 a piece) and available here.

It’s your last chance to see “El Corazón” at the Bath House Cultural Center. Curated by Jose Vargas, the heart-themed exhibition has been a staple in our neighborhood for 23 years. It will stay up through March 4, and is free to visit. See a full list of participating artists here.
