The Drake on White Rock Lake.

Condos are all the rage around Lakewood, where home prices are too high for some young professionals, pushing them toward townhouses instead. The Drake on White Rock Lake, which at 7450 Coronado Ave. is actually on White Rock Creek more than lake, is one of the newest projects looking to make its mark on the neighborhood.

At seven stories, it’ll leave a pretty big mark with up to 100 units. The Dallas Morning News reports that prices will range from $290,000-$750,000, with one-bedrooms starting at around 900-square-feet. The project is spearheaded by NBKW Partners LLC, which also behind the townhouses proposed on 14-acres of land at 2825 N. Buckner Blvd. The Coronado property will have a “mid-century inspired” design dreamed up by GDA Architects.

In addition to a prime location with walking access to the lake, Santa Fe Trail and neighborhood restaurants, the building will feature some high-end amenities like a salt-water pool, dog park and fitness center. Some upper units will have views of the lake. Although construction hasn’t yet started, applications are already being accepted, led by an overzealous ad campaign that includes a Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and promotional video (the latter of which is really just pretty footage of White Rock Lake).

Coronado is dotted with several apartment complexes, so density may be less of a concern on this property, which is already zoned multifamily.Â
