The good news is violent crime dropped slightly in 2018, according to data from the Dallas Police Department’s Crime Analysis Unit. The bad news is nonviolent crime increased in categories like burglary, burglary of a motor vehicle, shoplifting and other thefts.

The most notable rise was the jump in motor vehicle burglaries, which increased from 1,096 in 2017 to 1,210 in 2018. That’s an average of 25 per week.
